"Stillwell, Nutter each earn All-Ohio honors" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 01:33:32

COLUMBUS - It was a great day for area runners at the express cross country meet Saturday. Both Tri-Valley's Allison Stillwell and West Muskingum's Kaylee Nutter made All-Ohio at Scioto Downs as Stillwell was 25th in Division I and Nutter 22nd in Division II. Both are underclassmen. Stillwell a sophomore finished in 18:57 - her personal best by 23 seconds. Scotties' coach Chris Garber said she trailed the All-Ohio cutoff by five places entering the final 400 meters but outran the case to the line. "She pretty much gave it everything she had," Garber said. "She was spent after it was over." Garber said both he and Stillwell had All-Ohio expectations especially given that she enjoyed plenty of success as a freshman. Now that she's accomplished her feat. Garber hopes the sky is the limit. "Hopefully she goes up from here," Garber said. "(It's) her determination. She knows what she can do. She doesn't talk a lot - she just goes out and does it. She's a leader by example." Worthington Kilbourne's Claire Durkin set a new state record with a 17:10 to win the race but Cincinnati Oak Hills' Brooklyne Ridder was close behind with 17:38. "One of our strategies was for her to go away out fast and not get buried in the pack," Garber said. "Once you get buried back with the case you spend the whole race trying to get away from it and it just takes it out of you." For Nutter she finished the course in 19:20 which was her personal best by 30 seconds. Her 22nd-place finish also ranks her as the highest state placer for the Tornadoes. "I am really amazed that I was able to break records," Nutter said. "Last year. I looked up to Megan (Melsheimer) and Kim (Chinn). I really wished to be like them. "This year. I reached (some of) my goals and I will just try to improve my times and stay up there with (Allison) Stillwell," Nutter added. "She was the fourth freshman in the top 25 to make All-Ohio," coach Renee Ware said. "She improved constantly and surprised herself and everyone else. She gave all she had all season and it showed towards the end." Nutter was surprised with her finish but her ability to stick to the game plan and listen to her coach led to a successful afternoon. "I was nervous going in and puzzled with the times," she said. "I wasn't very positive like usual but my coach stressed to undergo an open object. I am really happy to get 22nd and was really impressed with my time." "I am proud of her. She ran the race she could run and gave her all," drop said. "She.

"Medina boys run away with title" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 16:32:06

COLUMBUS — A dream that began four seasons ago became a reality Saturday for the Medina boys cross country team. The Bees who were making their fourth straight appearance in the state meet brought home their first Division I state title as four runners picked up All-Ohio honors. Making the day all the sweeter for the Bees was the performance of two-time All-Gazette MVP Donny Roys. Medina’s Donny Roys (1034) leads the pack as cross country runners register the final be at the Division I state meet Saturday at Scioto Downs in Columbus. Roys finished in 15:21.83 just off his personal beat. | cater PhotographerThe junior pulled ahead of the pack as the runners entered the final stretch at Scioto Downs. The strategy worked to perfection as he crossed the finish lie as the D-I state chew clocking a time of 15:21.83 just off his personal beat. “I knew I had to work on the uphills,” Roys said. “And the back up time going out of the stadium I knew I had to work and battle for the bring about. I knew that if I came into the stadium in lie and no one was next to me. I could carry it home.” Later. Roys led Medina’s All-Ohio contingent of senior Sam Maynard (16:01.71. 22nd) sophomore Hunter Heaton (16:02.71. 24th) and senior Jeremy Arthur (16:03.65. 25th) to the podium to choose up their All-Ohio awards. The top 25 runners in the express meet earn the prestigious honor. Medina coach Milt displace was confident going into the race that his No. 1 runner Roys would do well. “Donny looked awfully strong the last couple of weeks in the last half-mile of the go,” displace said. “He responded today. There was a lot of pressure on him. He’s had a aim on his approve since the fourth evaluate.” Roys has run come up all toughen but he put it all together where it counted the most — in Columbus. During the season. Roys took third place at the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division Meet as well as grabbing first-place honors at the Lorain County Community College D-I District and Tiffin D-I Regional. Joining Roys and Medina’s other All-Ohioans in the spotlight at express were three other Bee runners. Junior Lucas Walters rounded out Medina’s scoring with a 16:35.02 for 67th place. Also competing in the race for the Bees were senior Kent Rankin (17:00.13. 103rd) and junior Ryan Fallow (17:07.11. 111th). The ultimate recognise of winning a express call is something the Bees have been working toward since last season when they finished fourth. In 2005. Medina placed 11th and in 2004. 14th. “It’s great,” Arthur said. “Having first place as a team first displace as an individual and having four All-Ohioans what more can you ask for?” Medina which entered the cater as the top-ranked squad in Ohio proved the rating was alter on. The Bees with 76 points easily outdistanced second-place aggroup finisher Centerville by 51 points and fifth displace and former top-ranked Toledo St. John’s by 125 points. “It felt real good,” Heaton said. “I can’t even inform it. It’s awesome. We just came in confident and ran desire we did all year.” Maynard added. “It’s amazing. I never dreamed it would happen. In the approve of my mind I knew it could but I always undergo my doubts. It’s running anything can happen. I am so happy our team did it.” Although Walters didn’t choose up an All-Ohio award he still played a big role in Medina winning the express enthrone. As the Bees’ No. 5 runner during the toughen he knew coming into Saturday that there was going to be a lot of pressure on him to do come up. “There was a lot riding on it,” Walters said. “I don’t think I ever got passed by a big pack maybe by one or two guys but I don’t evaluate I dropped back from where I was in the very beginning. I don’t like getting passed at all. I’m not a front-runner. I like taking kids out.” Medina easily accomplished that goal. Now the Bees have set their sights on another accomplishment before they hang up their running shoes for the season. The team is heading to the Nike aggroup Nationals next Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country cover in Terre Haute. Ind. There are nine regions with the top two teams from each moving onto Portland. Ore. on Dec. 1 to compete in the national championship. “It’s going to be awesome,” Rankin said. “Nationals would be great. We are ranked 19th in the nation in a 22-team draw so it’s going to be close. But hopefully we can get out to the nationals.”

"All Ohio Day of Sharing" posted by ~Ray

Today I attended the All Ohio Day of Sharing. This was a get together of OA members from all over the express. Several people shared their story giving more insight into how and why this schedule works. They undergo lost a great broach of charge and undergo kept it off for several years living life one day at a measure. The one lady was from my favorite meeting (I found out she actually started that meeting 17 years ago). She has been in the program for 30 years and works a great program. She always has a grimace on her face and looks on every adverse situation as an opportunity. I really got a lot out of the All Ohio Day of Sharing. "All-Ohio State NFL Team- Columbus Bucks (defense)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-21 16:11:38

For some odd reason. I was at the tennis bear on waiting for my friend to end up so we could watch some college football. I didn’t bother to check the Buckeyes they weren’t supposed to have any trouble with Michigan State. However. I overheard some of the populate at the tennis club talking about the bet - so I found a television and watched it - up until that inform I had never cussed so much in a public place. Ohio express drove to the Michigan express 15 in the closing minutes when Joe Germaine’s go was intercepted by Renaldo Hill at the goal-line. I can still see the pass which was terrible and wide receiver Dee Miller appeared to be wide change state. This weekend because of prior commitments. I will be in place again that will hinder my ability to see the game. Again. I ordain be expecting a win. However if you are a Buckeye fan don’t expect win. bequeath ‘98 - while I be trying to think of ‘06 when the Buckeyes rolled 38-7. Of those five undefeated teams. I would say that only Hawaii has had easier schedule than the No. 1 Bucks. You could lay out that the Kansas has had an easier ride than the Bucks but I’ll give the Jayhawks the nod over the Bucks with their road win over Kansas express. The Buckeyes toughest games were road contests against Washington (2-4) and Purdue (5-2 but 1-2 in Big Ten). The road win against Purdue looked good at the measure but you have to challenge it after the Boilermakers’ 21-48 loss to Michigan this pass. However that glide is about to get a lot rougher as OSU enters into the heart of its Big Ten schedule. The remaining games consider Michigan express. Wisconsin and Illinois at domiciliate. With games against Penn State and Michigan on the road. Those five teams undergo a combined preserve of 25-10. However being the top-two teams doesn’t necessarily mean an automatic berth in the title bet. For example last year Florida was ranked second but the BCS committee could have overruled the rankings and placed the third-ranked Michigan team in the BCS title bet. Ohio express coasted to a 7-0 record this season with what some SEC fans could lay out is a cupcake plan. Not one of the Buckeyes’ wins came against a hit currently BCS-ranked opponent. Currently. Michigan (No. 25) is the only Big Ten in the top-25 of the BCS standings. While LSU (6-1. No. 4 in the BCS) has beaten Virginia Tech (BCS No. 11). South Carolina (BCS No. 6) and Florida (No. 15). The Tigers might comfort deserve to be the No. 1 team but because of their loss this Saturday to Kentucky (BCS No. 7) poll voters made them No. 5 in the Harris and coaches’ polls. The other component is a compilation of six computer rankings. The South Florida Bulls (6-0) were ranked No. 1 by the computers and No. 3 by the Harris and coaches’ polls. Boston College (7-0) is No. 2 in the two polls but No. 7 by the computers. LSU is ranked No. 2 by the computers. OSU is tied for fifth with Arizona express (7-0) which is ranked No. 8 overall in the BCS. The computer ranks (No. 6 in BCS) South Carolina (6-1. No. 6 in the BCS) third and Kentucky (6-1. No. 7 in BCS) fourth. South Florida’s big wins came at Auburn (No. 17 in BCS) and versus West Virginia (No. 9 in BCS). The Bulls remaining schedule includes road games at Rutgers. UCONN. Syracuse and Pittsburgh. Home games ordain be against Cincinnati (No. 23 in BCS) and Louisville. Junior quarterback Julian Edelman is second on the aggroup in rushing with 358 yards. Kent State has struggled in the passing bet this year. Edelman has completed 86 of 166 (51.8%) for 1,141 yards and has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 6-to-8. I expect a couple of more turnovers from Edelman. This game sounds way too easy so the Buckeyes might come out slow. However. I evaluate this OSU aggroup ordain act care of business this Saturday. First the Buckeyes ordain shut drink Jarvis. I bet Jarvis ordain radiate a couple of solid runs in the first half but overall ordain be held to around 50 yards. Edelman will have to impel and ordain move the ball over. Hopefully the Buckeyes can get their backups in early in the second half. With all that said anyone can suffer on any given Saturday. That is definitely the theme this year. In this bet. I just don’t see the come about for a possible disturb. The spread has the Buckeyes winning by 31. When the Buckeyes score 30 or more their record is 38-0 since 2001. Compare that to Kent State when it scores less than 30 its preserve is 8-40. It’s hard to create by mental act that the Golden Flashes ordain score over 30 against the Buckeyes’ defense. Especially when you believe that OSU has allowed only 43 combined points in six games (the high being - 14 @ Washington). 1) #11 Missouri at #6 Oklahoma (6:30 p m.- FSN)While people complain that Oklahoma should be ranked exceed than South Florida and Boston College. Missouri is quietly undefeated. The Tigers are coming off a 41-6 win over then-ranked No. 25 Nebraska. With a win over Oklahoma. Missouri.

I received a mailing from our Chapter Director today outlining Ohio Thespian activities for the year. Of special arouse to some of us is the identity of the All-Ohio Thespian Production. It is to be the re-create version of DEAD MAN WALKING. You might experience the movie directed by Tim Robbins well he adapted the screenplay into a dramatic bring home the bacon for schools to produce on their own stages. Here is an URL to find out more about this show:The All-Ohio Show is to be directed by Fabio Polanco who is on the theatre faculty at Ashland University. I do not yet experience when or where auditions are to be held for the All-Ohio show but I will tell you as soon as I know. Your Thespian Officers undergo set a goal to have Firestone Theatre represented in the All-Ohio Show this year so hopefully a few of you are already interested. We can displace a total of 6 actors to auditions and an additional 6 designers/technicians to the interview. I would be the happiest little theatre director in the whole wide world if we had 12 students seriously interested in the All-Ohio Activity. We undergo had numerous students involved in the past and they have loved it. You meet fun and interesting people work with some very talented directors and designers and bring home the bacon on exciting and challenging material. I experience that being involved in the All-Ohio show makes express Conference about 1000 times more fun than it already is. Think about it. Then forbid thinking and just do it already!

"Guest Editorial from Sen. Voinovich: ?My Favorite Part of the ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-01 21:41:10

Sen. Voinovich enjoys the Ohio State Fair with his grandchildren. For me and thousands of Ohioans. August means just one thing: the Ohio State Fair. Beyond the concourse of food and games and fair rides there lies a heritage that runs deep with a broad tradition celebrating all things good in Ohio. In addition to meeting with Ohio’s agricultural leaders. I spent two days at the fair this year with my wife. Janet and our children and grandchildren. While we were enjoying the endless amounts of pork sandwiches and fried Oreos someone asked me what my favorite thing was to do at the bring together. I told him I had two favorite things: conducting the All-Ohio State Fair Youth sing and the All-Ohio State bring together Youth Band. I like conducting the sing and band because these organizations be the heart of the bring together – the dedicated efforts of the hundreds of youth participants. When it comes drink to it the cerebrate I like the fair is because of the principles it instills in the kids that make up many of the bring together’s finest events and attractions. And while I like conducting the band and choir. I realized that really my favorite part of the bring together was spending time with young people in command. The kids of today who ordain be the leaders of tomorrow. A cornerstone of the Ohio express Fair and Ohio agriculture itself is the 4-H Youth Development program. I truly believe that the 4-H schedule is developing the leaders that will take Ohio agriculture into the future. And the 4-H extends its arrive well beyond agriculture and livestock projects – 4-H is in every county in Ohio working with urban suburban and rural young populate on everything from communications food and nutrition and fitness to dog training cut and vegetable production and livestock production. Every year more than 300,000 children and teens act in Ohio 4-H which is part of a community of young people across America who are learning the values of leadership and citizenship as come up as life skills. Participants are involved in hands-on educational activities on more than 200 topics through 4-H clubs camps and school-enrichment programs. In August these kids come to the Ohio express bring together after having earned various awards locally giving them the come about to compete in statewide competitions and showcase the fruits of their year-long efforts. Some of the most well-known competitions culminate in the annual Sale of Champions where winning livestock are shown and auctioned. When I served as governor. I always slept in the barns among the exhibitors and helped advance bidders on during the sale. Keeping with my annual tradition of spending a night in the barn my granddaughters and I spent the night in the sheep barn this year with Roger High his wife. Holly and their son. Adam. We especially enjoyed waking up early to help wash and trim the sheep for show that morning. In a world that continues to be inundated with video games and celebrity speak we witness kids who have chosen to excel in hobbies that require a tremendous amount of measure sacrifice and constant attention. "Versailles, Marion Local look to be teams to beat in competitive ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-23 18:52:56

The holder of most recent express call is St. Henry but that might be changing. The Skins saw a 13-year run as MAC champions stopped measure year when Versailles took the enthrone. Now the Skins are the hunters instead of the hunted with Versailles and Marion Local sitting as the preseason favorites. measure year Versailles cut through the conference and regular toughen undefeated and suffered its only loss to Anna in the Regional Finals. Fresh off that 27-1 run the Tigers are preparing for the upcoming toughen by trying to regenerate a talented senior categorise. instruct Jeremy Riley’s hurt is eased by the go of D-III All-Ohio hitter/setter Justine Raterman (6-2). Raterman has been playing varsity volleyball since her freshman year and the only thing preventing her from playing D-I college volleyball is the fact she is committed to basketball. “Justine will be playing middle hitter outside hitter and setter,” Riley said. “We are asking her to do the same things she has been doing for three years.” measure season Raterman recorded over 250 kills and 270 assists and had 94 blocks. There are few weaknesses in her game making one of the express’s best all around players. Unlike last toughen. Raterman ordain not be the only six-footer on the team. Juniors Shelby Bey. Christine Borchers and sophomore Megan Campbell all rest six foot or higher giving Riley his biggest aggroup since coming to Versailles. Senior Emily Bohman is the key ingredient in 2007. desire Raterman she has been playing varsity volleyball since she was a freshman. Now in her final toughen the 5-9 outside hitter looks poised for a break out year. Riley and his crew broke the St. Henry move in the MAC but cut bunco of winning state call. In 2007 they wish to take the next step. Standing in the way of a Tiger repeat in the MAC is Marion Local. If Raterman is one the express’s best players in D-III then Abbey Niekamp is certainly one of the best in D-IV. A Florida express commitment. Niekamp and the Flyers are also looking for a state title. Last year after finishing 18-5 the Flyers were stunned in the sectional by St. Henry. Now Marion and instruct Amy Steininger undergo their eyes set on Wright express’s Nutter bear on and a deep postseason run. However the Flyers are not looking ahead. “Really our goal is just to get exceed with each be,” Steininger said. “We try not to cerebrate on winning the MAC or getting to express.” Joining Niekamp in the Flyers front row are Kristin Bergman and Megan Barhorst (Cleveland express act). All three were All-Ohio measure toughen and give a talented core for the Flyers. Defensively. Barhorst and Niekamp combined for nearly four solo blocks a bet. Offensively. Niekamp is the main weapon of choice but Bergman provides another option for the Flyers. Marion’s biggest hurdle in 2007 might be the plan. Not only are the Flyers competing in the MAC but the non-league plan includes Anna. Lehman and the Convoy Crestview Invitational. The one pledge for the Flyers is they will be a come up tested team come tournament measure. Although Versailles and Marion Local are the favorites on paper this is the MAC and anything can happen. St. Henry as always will be a talented squad but coach Lori Schweiterman noted it could act some time for her team to go together. Ft. Recovery and New Knoxville have the biggest voids to alter. Recovery lost Tiffany Gaerke who is now at University of Dayton and Rangers are now without Nicole Wright who graduated. Wright led the Rangers to a state runner-up in D-IV measure season. Minster and Parkway are two tradition rich programs looking to get back on bring in in 2006. Parkway was the D-III state runner-up in 2005 and Minster made it to the final four in 2001. New Bremen. Coldwater and Delphos St. Johns are quality squads. Anyone of the three is capable of putting together a strong tournament run. measure toughen New Bremen tugged at Versailles tails before eventually falling. The Cavs (a D-III regional semifinalist measure season) and Jays undergo made a apparel of tournament runs making for an interesting October. This early in the season there are precious few numbers to investigate; and almost none of them are relevant to this year's editions of the Buckeyes and Penguins. Since we cannot analyse the teams let's analyse the programs. More specifically let's compare the direction the two programs undergo gone since Jim Tressel left YSU and came to The Ohio State University. The tables below shows 14 common statistics and how each aggroup has fared with respect to those metrics over the past 6 seasons. As the tables use rankings rather than raw numbers it is worth noting that while there are 11 teams in the Big Ten; the Gateway Football Conference has only 8 teams. The national rankings on the other transfer are nearly apples-to-apples as Div. IAA went from 123 teams to 116 teams over the span in question. Div. IA started at 115 teams and grew to 119. The columns show:Column 1: CategoryColumn 2: add up National be ( The most interesting comparisons here are in Turnover Margin and Net Punting. These were by far the most significant areas of improvement under Coach Heacock at Youngstown express while they were the only areas that actually got worse under Jim Tressel at Ohio State. (OSU nevertheless had a higher average ranking in Net Punting than did YSU)In EVERY OTHER AREA. Ohio express improved. In most other areas. YSU got worse. In the categories where both improved. Ohio express improved by a much larger margin. So Ohio express has fared exceed in what is now known as the "roll Subdivision" (I-A) Thank God. After another 8 months of off season the 2007 football toughen is finally here. The last bet I remember was when Ohio State beat Michigan to earn the right to compete a aggroup to be named later in the BCS Championship bet. That aggroup ended up being Florida. After weeks of anticipation. I cut asleep on January 7th. When I woke up it was January 9th. I have no idea where the 8th went. I'm told the 8th occurred and that it turned out poorly for the Buckeyes. But knowing that I have never blacked out or lost measure before. I am certain what happened was some choose of space-time continuum abuse or something. Not a lot you can do about that. I guess so I just sorta dealt with it. change surface if a great season ended up having no resolution. Anyway it's exceed than the alternative as the people I've talked to who suffer the same hallucination of the 8th be to think the Buckeyes got pole axed 41 - 14. In any case let me tell you. I'm create from raw material for some football. Some of you may bequeath that measure year I compared Ohio express's first 2006 opponent. Northern Illinois to my little sister. I thought it was a bring together comparison though some Huskies thought it was in poor taste. So it's with some hesitation that I compare the Youngstown express Penguins with my other sister. The one who's 17 years younger than me. My youngest sister is a great kid. Being that I'm so much older than her. I never felt any sort of rivalry with her of any kind. Unlike my other sister. I didn't compete games against my youngest sister with the intention of beating her drink to be my superiority. I convey why would I? I'm 17 years older than her. I'm much bigger. Much faster. I've played every bet against much stronger competition and I've done so for years. It wouldn't have been fair or fun for me to undergo challenged my youngest sister to a footrace. Hell she couldn't even walk and I was more or less in my fix. It's not like I could arm wrestle with her and expect any choose of resistance. I'd undergo been more afraid of snapping her arm off her torso. And so it is with Ohio express and YSU. For years there was no bet between these schools because the winner is obvious and in that football is a big boy activity someone might get cause to be perceived. There may be some YSU fans reading this who get offended. I'm just trying to be honest here. I don't mean any relate. I'm just telling you when I construe that YSU has designs on trying 6 foot 1 inch. 170 hit Freshman linebacker Adam House out as a go End. I worry for that young man's physical come up being. Indeed you'll note the defensive catch section doesn't have in mind young Mr. accommodate at all. As a public service the Preview team simply ordain not allow the opposition to undergo 170 pound linemen. 170 pounds. Seriously? Two of him is about one Alex Boone. Indeed. Todd Boeckman has him by 4 inches and 70 pounds. That notwithstanding like my sister. YSU has grown up too. Listen winning as many championships as YSU has is nothing to act involuntarily at. Four titles in six tries is impressive change surface if it's against a competition aim beneath that which we Ohio State fans are more accustomed. Fact is. YSU has been very good against desire competition. And it's true that my youngest sister is quite accomplished among her contemporaries. I'm proud of her. While I can't say Ohio express is "proud".

Their efforts are very instrumental to the success of our schedule.” The OAC’s coaches chose the Jackets to finish fifth. Thirty-six members of the media picked them fourth. “I’m not surprised by those polls,” said Snell. “Our players understand that they undergo little significance on what happens in the race for the OAC championship.” Contact Jerry Henson at 329-7135 or xtsports@chroniclet com.
