SOC-Lincoln: Final words from Loos

 <modified>2008-10-05T02:17+00:00

Just a quick scan of our scrolling scoreboard and it seems everyone in 5A who went into the weekend undefeated stayed that way. come up other than Wylie and Richardson Berkner who lost to fellow undefeateds Plano and Carrollton Creekview respectively.
Speaking of Berkner-Creekview. I felt desire the main character on "Life on Mars" (both the BCC and ABC versions) - transported back to 1973. Two option offenses hashing it out only a handful of passes. Quick game easy stats to compute.
Then came Plano-Wylie: Lots of passing blocked punts big passes and critical penalties. This was more like "Pushing Daisies" - where with one touch - or rather two blocked punts - Wylie came back to life. But just as quickly another comprehend - a 38-yard go to set up the winning score - silenced Wylie's hopes for good.
Even though it didn't evaluate in the scoring. Cedar forge sophomore QB Driphus Jackson made a highlight-reel run of 39 yards in the third quarter of a 14-0 win over South Grand Prairie. I counted six South Grand Prairie tacklers that got at least a hand on Jackson as he scrambled out of the pocket on third-and-15 at his own 25. He also made a couple of fakes that froze defenders. And this was against a South Grand Prairie defense that tackled very well all night.
Jackson showed his cool later on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Oliver Wells but a holding penalty wiped out that score.
Mitchell put a jarring hit on Wakeland all-everything player Jaime Harris in the end zone with no time on the clock preserving a 32-24 Centennial win and halting an incredible Wakeland rally.
Wakeland had the roll on its own 32-yard lie with 18 seconds left to play and QB Will Secord connected with Harris on a 55-yard pass play. Following an incomplete pass. Secord threw to Harris in the end zone. Harris had the roll but Mitchell's hit forced the most critical displace of the game.
The Wildcats' victory was sealed when a Wylie receiver for some crazy cerebrate lateraled the ball after catching a fourth down pass for enough yardage to extend the drive. The ball ended up at the furnish of a arrange far short of the sticks.
There were 18 seconds on the clock. Wylie had one timeout left and the ball in Plano territory. The odds weren't in the Pirates' favor but they certainly had a shot of pulling off the come-from-behind upset over the state's second-ranked Class 5A team.
What a punch to the gut for Wylie. This reminds me of the game at Highland Park during Chase Gibson's senior year when the Pirates outplayed a perennial cater on enemy turf only to board with bus with broken hearts.
But let's not take anything away from Plano which showed tremendous poise after things unraveled for the Wildcats and Wylie took the lead early in the fourth accommodate. QB Carson Meger and Co were cool as could be during the go-ahead control efficiently moving 83 yards to seize the bring about. RB Rex Burkhead bulled into the end zone for the go-ahead score but Plano proved tonight that it can put points on the come in when the opposing defense contains the Wildcats' superstar.
Anthony Williams Jr batted down a big fourth-down pass near the goal line with two minutes left to flee one possible disaster.
place Baker intercepted a Hail Mary on the final play of the game. Baker also rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown.
After trailing Frisco Centennial. 32-3 in the third quarter. Frisco Wakeland has scored 21 unanswered points the latest touchdown a 7-yard Jamarr Brown run.
There's 5:13 left in the game plenty of time for a fired-up Wakeland squad. Centennial needs a game-changing drive if it wants to act the lead.
Carson Meger hook to Holt Hoetger -- 9 yardsMeger hook to Kris Lott -- 12 yardsMeger hook to Lott -- 14 yardsIncomplete. Whitlock hurryScrambling Meger pass over middle to Hoetger -- 38 yardsRex Burkhead option left -- 4 yardsBurkhead toss right -- 6-yard TD
I've been impressed with Frisco Wakeland's Jaime Harris the entire game. Harris just made a compete that impressed me even more.
Harris took a check pass from Will Secord and broke several tackles to find the end govern from 29 yards out. Wakeland now trails Frisco Centennial. 32-17 with 10:27 left to play. Centennial exceed be careful.
Whitlock has pretty much dominated the second half. Forget for a moment the return of a blocked punt for a go-ahead TD. The kid is constantly wreaking havoc in the Plano backfield.
Case in point: He got great penetration to breathe out up what was supposed to be a reverse to Robert Robinson resulting in a poor pitch by Rex Burkhead that basically killed a Plano drive.
The AHMO Army is going wild after Wylie blocked another kick. NT Nikita Whitlock scooped up the loose roll and rumbled about 10 yards for the TD.
Not 100 percent sure who got the block but we believe it was Nick Knott again. Didn't get a replay from the homer big screen operators but they were happy to show the incomplete pass on the two-point conversion again.
The blocked kick came after a three-and-out series. The Plano coaches were banging on the press box window in protest of a no-call on what they thought was go interference on second down. No doubt about LB Toby Ball flying up the middle on a blitz for a sack the following play.
LUFKIN - Galena Park North Shore broke Southlake Carroll's state record of 72 consecutive regular-season victories Friday with a 28-21 victory against Lufkin the Houston Chronicle's blog is reporting.
North Shore which last played Sept. 5 defeated a 2-3 Lufkin team that had won 27 consecutive domiciliate games.
Quarterback Alex Tillman hit Deandrew White with a 6-yard scoring pass with 26 seconds left to displace North Shore. Devon Gibson picked off a Lufkin go with six seconds remaining to clinch it.
The effects of Hurricane Ike caused North Shore to balance three games including a Sept. 27 game with Carroll.
UPDATE: It'll be third-and-goal from the 5 to mouth the fourth quarter. Wylie trailing by eight with a chance to tie it up.
Colleyville Heritage which is averaging more than 45 points a bet is getting a tussle from Justin Northwest tonight correspondent Mark Buford reports.
Heritage. 4-0 and No. 7 in SportsDay's area rankings just took a 21-10 lead on Bailey Crego's 5-yard run. Heritage set up the TD with a long kick return following Northwest's look for recovery for a advance which had made the score 14-10.
Dallas Christian ate up 7:21 on the opening drive of the second half. After running back Garrison Baker was stopped twice on goal-line stands he finally broke through on third down to score the touchdown.
The Wildcats have managed to act the ball consistently despite Wylie accomplishing its mission of shutting down RB Rex Burkhead who has been held to 39 yards on 14 carries.
Corbett Smith reports that Rockwall-Heath turned a tie into a two-TD lead over Rockwall lickity-split in the back up half. That can come about when you hand the ball to a kid like Kendial Lawrence.
Lawrence has scored on runs of 62 and 42 yards in the third quarter. He has rushed for 232 yards and three TDs on 15 carries. And he caught a 17-yard TD go.
UPDATE: Oops. Wylie botched a handoff the next play. Plano LB Alex LaButis pounced on the loose ball at midfield.
Hamblin has thrown for 227 yards and two TDs -- both to Marquis Goodwin. Rowlett just took a 24-14 lead on Treyvon Green's 8-yard run.
You all know how I feel about halftime band shows.. so the following praise may actually shock some of you.
Frisco Wakeland opened with an interesting show where members of the cut team (I think it's the cut team) changed from caterpillars to butterflies. What made this show nice was that the drill team members came out wearing green then - somehow or another - went under individual cloaks and changed into multi-colored ensembles. It was desire a David Blaine-type of illusion - except this illusion was good.
Frisco Centennial's band decided to play a game of Clue - yes the board game Clue. They undergo three big banners on the handle: The dining room the kitchen and the library. When I played Clue - the three times in my life - I always answered the same way: Professor Plum in the kitchen with a knife.
The shows are now over and we're all ready for more football. Oh wait.. tonight is homecoming for Centennial. Wow...
The upset check is still on but Garland Naaman Forest has a 14-7 lead over Sachse after QB Derrick Osborn connected with WR John Harris for a 40-yard TD pass.
RB Jonathon Miller an OU register has 190 yards and a TD on 20 carries with a little more than three minutes to go in the third quarter.
Ennis. No. 4 in SportsDay's area rankings leads No. 8 Waxahachie. 28-6 at the half. Jon Nielsen reports.
Centennial turned two Wakeland turnovers into 12 points and with the offense it actually has used its scored 13 additional points. QB Ryan Mossakowski has completed 13 of 18 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. WR Bryan Singer who has one of the touchdown receptions has four catches for 101 yards.
Everything isn't bad for Wakeland. ATH Jaime Harris has been a beast all over the place. As a WR he has two catches for 37 yards. As a DB he has two interceptions and nearly returned the second one for what would have been a 90-yard touchdown.
I'd ask for more details but there's no way I can get any objectivity from that Yellow Jackets hit.
UPDATE: Got some info from Corbett Smith our unbiased correspondent at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium.
Rockwall-Heath RB Kendial Lawrence is running wild. He has rushed for 104 yards and a TD on 12 carries and also has a 17-yard TD catch.
Rockwall tied it up on QB Adam Dingwell's TD run with 13 seconds remaining in the half. Dingwell hit Will Beasley for a 63-yard completion a couple plays earlier to set up the score.
Dallas Christian started to make a big drive into Prestonwood Christian territory but a fumble on a fling to Blake Rudd and big go gave Prestonwood the ball back at the Dallas Christian 37.
Prestonwood quarterback Kaleb Kyser fired three straight completions the final one to Luke Taylor for an 11-yard touchdown to regain the lead.
Taylor's had quite a night so far: three catches for 39 yards and three touchdowns. Call that making the most of the touches you get.
In the photo to the alter. Dallas Christian quarterback Corey Brooks carries the ball as a host of Prestonwood Christian Academy defenders including linebacker Clifton Bryant (44) and linebacker Tyler Kleinert (4) move in for the stop in the first half of the TAPPS 2-II game. PHOTO BY MIKE kill
Frisco Centennial QB Ryan Mossakowski used a handle fake to his advantage baiting Frisco Wakeland defenders and finding WR Bryan Singer for a 53-yard touchdown reception. There's 59 seconds left in the half and Centennial is cruising. 25-3.
Centennial's only problem tonight has been its kicking bet. Its botched two extra points one missing wide left and the other fumbled.
SGP had good handle position two possessions in second accommodate but it wound up with third-and-33 on one and third-and-16 on other. Needless to say. SGP failed to convert.
Cedar Hill has rushed for 89 yards led by Ben Malena with 29 yards on six carries. Tyrus McGlothen leads SGP with 24 yards on 11 carries but as a team. South has only five rushing yards.
Part of the problem for South Grand Prairie is snaps in the shotgun formation. Doesn't appear the ball is getting to QB Ryan Campos where he wants it. Six Campos carries have resulted in minus 27 yards.
Wylie turned the ball over on downs deep in Plano territory. A receiver dropped a perfect pass from Jerod Monk on first down. Wylie followed that up with an incompletion a sack and a go that was 10 yards short of the first down.
Plano got the ball with 32 seconds to go but didn't give any of its playmakers a come about to pad the lead. Carson Meger kneeled on the ball instead.
Freelance writer Billy Eichenholz reports that Pinkston running back Aaron Spikes ran for 297 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries in the first half against North Dallas. Spikes has scoring runs of 36. 54. 34 and 49 yards as Pinkston leads. 33-6 at halftime.
Spikes entered the game second among 4A area rushers with 849 yards and he had run for 10 touchdowns.
Frisco Wakeland finally gets on the board with a 24-yard handle goal by Brennon Satre with 1:31 left until halftime. Wakeland trails Frisco Centennial. 19-3.
Credit Centennial's defense for making quality stops. Wakeland's Jaime Harris intercepted his second pass of the night to furnish the Wolverines a first-and-goal situation at the 10-yard lie. Centennial however held Wakeland out of the end zone with strong compete by its defensive backs.
Dunne was suppose to host this game but its stadium renovations are not complete. So Dunne is wearing its home navy uniforms made Nolan wear their white uniforms and Dunne brought over some Dallas officials. That's about all the hospitality Nolan would extend however.
Garland Naaman plant the No. 4 team in SportsDay's 5A area rankings has a battle on its hands against Sachse. Freelance writer Derek Johnson reports that Naaman Forest running back Jonathon Miller has run for 138 yards and a touchdown but the score is tied. 7-7 at halftime.
As I be at Centennial's roster they have a Manuel Duchane-Carroll and an Emmanuel Duchane-Carroll. There's also a Dominique Carroll and the announcer's calling him Dominique Duchane-Carroll.
I'm so confused right now. And to make matters worse there's a red Teletubby walking around the Centennial side of the bleachers. Not really sure what his purpose is.
Imoh Edohoukwa the Centennial defensive back who intercepted Wakeland QB Will Secord's pass for a touchdown in the first quarter just caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Mossakowski to give the Titans a 19-0 lead.
Prestonwood returned the kickoff after Brandon Durham's touchdown run all the way to the Dallas Christian 22. Moments later quarterback Kaleb Kyster throws a 24-yard pass to Luke Taylor who gets into the end zone.
Wylie needed a TD to alter sure this game didn't get out of hand. WR Justin Thompson came through with a pretty catch for a 16-yard score capping a 12-play. 80-yard drive.
Scrambling QB Jerod Monk found Thompson wide change state in the approve corner of the end zone. Thompson made a leaping catch and tapped his toes inbounds.
Brandon Durham rushes up the lay breaks one tackle and finds 82 yards of open space in lie of him. No one else touches him again and he strides into the end zone.
Prestonwood Christian blocks the extra point - their second blocked kick of the night - to make it 13-7 with 11:23 left in the second quarter.
Plano's Luke Terrell got his paws on Jerod Monk's punt and Laron Kelly scooped it up and returned it 33 yards to the Wylie 3. Monk was lined up a little deeper than his regular shotgun sight but Terrell didn't have to go far to get the block.
That led to Plano's second consecutive one-play touchdown drive. Rex Burkhead rumbled for the 6-yard score. Extra point failed.
Colleague Keith Whitmire wryly notes that Wylie is winning the time-of-possession contend by a whole clump. The score: Plano 20. Wylie 7 with 24 seconds to go in the first accommodate.
Wakeland shot itself in the foot for the second time and Centennial made Wakeland pay for it once again.
Wakeland's beautiful drive - one that went 71 yards - was halted by a mouth that sailed over QB Will Secord's head. Centennial DB Johnny Markham scooped up the fumble and raced 60 yards for a Titan touchdown. The defense has scored all of the points.
Plano took the lead on the play immediately after forcing a kick that didn't prove in a roughing-the-kicker call.
Everybody knows Rex Burkhead is a big-play machine but he's not the only Plano RB who is a home run threat. Robert Robinson just took a short pass and turned it into an 88-yard touchdown hitting the right sideline and leaving Wylie DBs in his wake.
That's 108 yards on two touches for Robinson tonight. Memo to Wylie: That kid will make you pay for keying on Burkhead.
A nice stand by the defense and a shanked punt gave Dallas the ball at Prestonwood's 46. After a run stuff. Dallas Christian capitalized on Prestonwood's worry of the rushing game. Brooks faked a handoff beautifully rolled to the left and fired a touch to Withrow in the flat. Withrow's blazing speed took care of the be.
Start of Cedar Hill-South Grand Prairie now in a 25-minute decelerate for lights. Three of the four towers are working. The head coaches. Rob Davies of SGP and Joey McGuire of Cedar Hill met briefly about 10 minutes ago. Teams are approve on the field stretching so I guess they are going to compete without full power. New kickoff measure according to scoreboard is 8 p m.
The punt in addition helped Centennial get on the come in first against Wakeland. Will Secord threw an interception to Imoh Edohoukwa who returned it 11 yards for a Centennial TD.
Plano responded to Wylie's TD drive by marching 65 yards on seven plays to tie the advance. Rex Burkhead had three carries for 24 yards and QB Carson Meger capped the control with a 19-yard pass to wide-open WR Kris Lott.
Plano reached into its razzle-dazzle bag alter away opening the possession with a change to Robert Robinson that gained 20 yards. A halfback go from Burkhead to Meger fell incomplete.
The bad news? Prestonwood only ate up 3:08 of the clock and it's handing the ball over to a powerful ground bet.
Those are the important stats from the opening possession of the Wylie-Plano game. The big compete was a 32-yard gain by RB/WR Colby Harper on a perfectly executed read zone option compete where QB Jerod Monk sucked up the defense with a play fake and pitched the ball at the perfect time.
The Plano fellas who run the flags during pregame festivities apparently wanted to make sure the Wylie folks knew who they were playing. The letters were backwards to the home side which is standing room only.
Still 1,000 or so seats available on the visitor's side of John Clark Field/Stadium but there's a stream of headlights coming in off move Creek Parkway.
The schools are separated by only 10.38 miles so it was just a matter of time before they landed in the same district once Cedar forge grew to Class 5A status.
South Grand Prairie is riding a four-game winning streak including a win over Irving Nimitz last week in its 7-5A opener.
Even though both teams have explosive skill position players. I'm thinking this is going to be a defensive game. I'm guessing 24 points will be enough to win. But then again. I thought the Cubs were headed to the Series.
Some of you Springsteen fans may call him "The Boss." We'll see if he can put on a better Super Bowl performance than Prince did a couple of years approve - with an electric guitar in the rain coincidentally singing "Purple Rain."
It's homecoming night at Lions Stadium in Plano with Dallas Christian and Prestonwood Christian about a half hour from kickoff.
The stands are starting to fill up and the sun is thankfully beginning to set. The press box is facing the west so the sooner it sets the exceed - I'd rather not grimace into the sun for the entire bet.
The homecoming theme is A Hero's Homecoming and I saw a few floats shaped desire battleships and tanks on the walk into the stadium.
I'm expecting a close game tonight and a great battle between Dallas Christian's stingy defense and Prestonwood Christian's great passing attack on offense. I'll keep you posted throughout the night.
I've arrived at Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium. This is my first move here. Good looking stadium no doubt.
I'm expecting a good ball game between District 9-4A opponents Frisco Centennial (3-1. 1-0) and Frisco Wakeland (3-1. 0-1). I've heard a lot about Centennial QB Ryan Mossakowski. With a 67-percent completion clip and his last week against McKinney North. I can see why Kentucky fans were excited to see him commit. Can he act it up in a big govern game against cross-town rival Wakeland?
And speaking of QBs. Wakeland has a pretty good one in Will Secord. WRs Jaime Harris and Dallas Grier should act the Centennial defense busy. Wakeland is hungry for a district win after losing,35-21 to McKinney last week.
If Wylie pulled off an upset over Plano tonight at John Clark Field/Stadium it would be the Pirates' biggest win as a Class 5A schedule.
You better accept that Wylie will pull out all the stops. We might change surface see some swinging furnish action. The Pirates are practicing that sort of mouth at midfield right now about an hour before kickoff. Big Noah Cheshier is the cat on the receiving end of the mouth.
My advice to Plano is to not get too cute with the play-calling. Get the roll in the hands of the Wildcats' playmakers (RB Rex "Superman" Burkhead and WR Kris Lott) and let Wylie's defense try to stop 'em.
Could have a full house here tonight for the battle of unbeatens. Plano fans should be ashamed if they don't pack the home side and the AHMO Army always travels well.

Interestingly. Creekview's first play after the interception was a pitch to Andre McCoy. Pretty risky when you're trying to run out the measure with just a 7-point lead.
Earlier in the fourth quarter. Berkner looked to undergo pulled off a game-changing play. Berkner's Grant Nakwaasah stripped the ball from a Creekview receiver at the end of a long completion (the only one of the game). That gave Berkner the ball at its 38 with nine minutes left but Berkner only went backwards from there and punted.
It's Creekview. 21-14 over Berkner with 12 minutes left on the clock. Unless we go to overtime. I'll get domiciliate early.
Creekview QB Scotty Grau isn't especially fast but he knows how to pick his way through traffic and make a cutback at the alter time. Grau just ripped off a 42-yard TD run to put the Mustangs up 21-14 with 4:49 left in the third quarter.
The first half took less than an hour. We've had just two passes thrown so far. Creekview wouldn't even throw when it got the ball at midfield with 1:57 left. Creekview wound up trying a long field goal that fell short.
So far the difference has been the quarterbacks. Creekview's Scotty Grau has worked the option for two long TD runs. Berkner's Lawrence Williams has had its moments but he's had trouble holding onto the ball. There have been a bring together of bobbles in addition to the three fumbles (one lost).
Putting the ball on the ground will kill a triple option aggroup. If Berkner hangs onto the ball in the second half and figures out how to defend the pitch man AND the quarterback this one should go down to the equip.
It's getting cold here in Carrollton. That's because Creekview QB Scotty Grau just absolutely froze a defender on the option then scooted through traffic for a 60-yard TD run.
The Berkner defender hesitated for a split-second making the slightest move toward the pitch man. That was all Grau needed to see to break the run.
UPDATE: Forgot that Berkner-Creekview was tonight. Consider that a Thursday night bonus pick and I added one more game.
Richardson Berkner 27. Carrollton Creekview 24The Something's Gotta Give Matchup of the Week: Berkner's defense vs. Creekview's offense both ranked second among area categorise 5A teams. Actually. I'll go down the lay on that one with Creekview scoring more points than Berkner allowed through four games but falling come up short of its season average.
Plano 24. Wylie 21Plano whupped Wylie measure season in large move because the Wildcats picked off QB Jerod Monk four times. That won't happen again as Monk has matured into one of the area's elite quarterbacks. But Rex Burkhead and Co will put up just enough points to avoid the upset.
Cedar Hill 28. South Grand Prairie 14South Grand Prairie has rolled to four straight wins since getting blown out in the season opener by Richardson Berkner. But the Warriors haven't seen a team nearly as big and athletic as Cedar forge which will eliminate any doubt that it's the aggroup to beat in govern 7-5A.
Rockwall-Heath 27. Rockwall 17Rockwall might be the best 0-4 team in the state but Rockwall-Heath is a budding power. Rockwall-Heath RB Kendial Lawrence will put up big numbers against a defense that allowed two 100-yard rushers in last week's loss to Royse City.
Ennis 30. Waxahachie 21Waxahachie ended a nine-year. 10-game losing streak to its archrival with a convincing win over Ennis measure season. This season's Ennis aggroup has a much more balanced offense with QB D. J. Betik (980 passing yards. 10 TDs) returning the aerial threat to instruct Sam Harrell's spread plot.
Mansfield Summit 24. Mansfield 21Summit which beat Mansfield Timberview earlier this season ordain retain its title of the town's best team by containing Mansfield star RB Stepfan Taylor. Containing Taylor means keeping him under 200 yards. Mansfield is 0-2 when he doesn't hit the 200-yard milestone this season.
The father of Duncanville senior guard Reger Dowell on Wednesday said Arizona has withdrawn its scholarship offer to the categorise of 2009 register.
Dale Dowell said Arizona coach Lute Olson pulled his son's scholarship after Abdul Gaddy - the 13th-ranked player and No. 2 guard in the nation by Rivals com - recommitted to the Wildcats. Reger Dowell is ranked 135th nationally by Rivals com and 18th in the state by Texashoops com.
The Coppell-Hebron volleyball match Tuesday night was move of the District 6-5A matches that were fundraisers for the Dallas chapter of the which for 25 years has been fighting to cure converge cancer. As part of the fund-raising night. Coppell and Hebron wore go jerseys.
Coppell had fans assure a certain be for every dig it would have in the match. I don't know how many digs Coppell had but it will probably raise a lot of money for Komen. The team's goal is to surpass the $13,000 it raised last year with its "Digging for a aid" night.
Coppell won the match but everyone looks pretty happy in the photo taken by Tim Martin. Thanks to Coppell coach Sherri Hankins for passing it along.
Carrollton American Heritage wide receiver/defensive back Duval Gregory is out for the toughen with a torn ACL coach Bob Giesey said.
Gregory injured his knee in the third quarter of last week's 41-10 win over Carrollton Prince Peace. He had an interception and three first-half touchdowns (a 66-yard reception a 55-yard punt go and a 26-yard rush).
Gregory was 15th in the area with 291 receiving yards and boasted an add up of 29.1 yards per catch. He racked up 768 yards as a sophomore measure year before suffering an injury during district play.
Ch. 21 (KTXA) has revised its High educate Edge Game of the Week schedule for next week. The Rowlett-Naaman Forest game will be televised live next Thursday (Oct. 9) starting at 7 p m.
The Grand Prairie-Irving MacArthur game was originally scheduled for that slot but those teams are a combined 1-9. There should be a lot more interest in 4-1 Naaman against 2-2 Rowlett if only because it's a chance to see the Naaman Forest offensive machine.
And for any early-arriving Sooners (Texas-OU is Oct. 11) it's a chance to watch prize recruit Jonathon Miller rumble in Naaman Forest color and orange before he dons the crimson and cream.
Plano has a great offense that's putting up 40 points a bet. Running back Rex Burkhead has scored a whopping 15 touchdowns and can do it all. But despite its state and national rankings. Plano hasn't really impressed me yet and had close calls against Hebron and DeSoto.
Wylie's offense is no slouch either (44 points per game) and Jerod Monk looks like the real deal at quarterback. The defense is stout (No. 6 in Area 5A) with nose guard Nikita Whitlock and company holding opponents to 60 rushing yards a game. If anyone can stop Burkhead it's probably this unit.
The six volleyball teams in District 6-5A -- Coppell. Hebron. Lewisville. Flower Mound. Southlake Carroll and Flower Mound Marcus -- ordain collect donations at their matches tonight for the Dallas chapter of the Susan G. Komen for the aid Foundation.
Coppell players will also wear pink jerseys for the game as they did last year when they had a Dig for the Cure night to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Like measure year. Coppell players asked fans to pledge a certain amount for each dig the players will make in tonight's match.
Mark Barefield a senior receiver at North Mesquite orally committed to Nevada-Las Vegas during a visit to the campus Sunday. Barefield (6-1. 185) said he was also offered by Virginia.
"I liked what I saw as a town and as a football program," Barefield said. "They just beat the No. 13 team in the nation. Arizona State. They've got some great guys on the team."
Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day a 2009 football recruit can sign a earn of intent is Feb. 4.
Barefield who transferred from Wills Point measure April has seven catches for 151 yards and a touchdown in four games this season.
Lake Highlands' 24-20 disturb over Skyline was the big news over the weekend. But linebacker Andrew Atamah said Lake Highlands has already moved on from the victory.
"We talked as a team after the game and Saturday afternoon," Atamah said. "Now we're just focusing on Sunset. We're not really worried about the Skyline win anymore."
The Trojans fell to No. 3 behind Byrnes (Duncan. S. C.) and the new No. 1. St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale. Fla.). Even if some here in the Metroplex are bummed about Trinity's slip. I know one person who's likely cheering: Cowboys legend Michael Irvin a St. Thomas Aquinas alum.

Kennedale (4-0) jumps Celina which lost for a second time. Grapevine Faith (5-0) defeated previous No. 1 Fort Worth Nolan.
My top 10 for 5A this week doesn't dress much. Euless Trinity wasn't impressive in its victory over Keller but every team ordain have a down week. The Trojans probably just had a bit of a letdown after back-to-back wins over Cedar Hill and Allen. Keller was undefeated entering the bet too so perhaps its strong showing prompts consideration for a sight in the 15-20 range.
Plano is No. 2 and gets a big evaluate this week from Wylie who I've got at No. 5 after the 44-0 win over McKinney Boyd. I've pretty much had Southlake Carroll and Plano tied for second all year so the Plano-Wylie will help break that tie. Carroll is No. 3 in my poll and Garland Naaman Forest is 4. Wylie is followed by Colleyville Heritage at 6 then Allen. develop Mound. Richardson Berkner and Arlington Bowie at 10.
So why is Bowie in the top 10 and Skyline the team that defeat it not in the top 10? Because now that Christian Matthews is back. I think Bowie is the exceed team than Skyline. But I think both those teams will be scary opponents in the playoffs.
SOC-Lincoln: Final words from Loos

 <modified>2008-10-05T02:17+00:00

Just a quick scan of our scrolling scoreboard and it seems everyone in 5A who went into the pass undefeated stayed that way. Well other than Wylie and Richardson Berkner who lost to fellow undefeateds Plano and Carrollton Creekview respectively.
Speaking of Berkner-Creekview. I felt like the main character on "Life on Mars" (both the BCC and ABC versions) - transported back to 1973. Two option offenses hashing it out only a handful of passes. Quick game easy stats to compute.
Then came Plano-Wylie: Lots of passing blocked punts big passes and critical penalties. This was more like "Pushing Daisies" - where with one touch - or rather two blocked punts - Wylie came approve to life. But just as quickly another comprehend - a 38-yard pass to set up the winning score - silenced Wylie's hopes for good.
Even though it didn't figure in the scoring. Cedar Hill sophomore QB Driphus Jackson made a highlight-reel run of 39 yards in the third quarter of a 14-0 win over South Grand Prairie.
Wakeland had the roll on its own 32-yard line with 18 seconds left to play and QB Will Secord connected with Harris on a 55-yard pass compete. Following an incomplete pass. Secord threw to Harris in the end zone. Harris had the ball but Mitchell's hit forced the most critical drop of the game.
The Wildcats' victory was sealed when a Wylie receiver for some crazy reason lateraled the ball after catching a fourth down pass for enough yardage to extend the drive. The ball ended up at the bottom of a pile far short of the sticks.
There were 18 seconds on the clock. Wylie had one timeout left and the roll in Plano territory. The odds weren't in the Pirates' favor but they certainly had a shot of pulling off the come-from-behind upset over the state's second-ranked Class 5A team.
What a punch to the gut for Wylie. This reminds me of the game at Highland Park during Chase Gibson's senior year when the Pirates outplayed a perennial power on enemy turf only to board with bus with broken hearts.
But let's not take anything away from Plano which showed tremendous poise after things unraveled for the Wildcats and Wylie took the lead early in the fourth quarter. QB Carson Meger and Co were alter as could be during the go-ahead drive efficiently moving 83 yards to seize the bring about. RB Rex Burkhead bulled into the end zone for the go-ahead score but Plano proved tonight that it can put points on the come in when the opposing defense contains the Wildcats' superstar.
Anthony Williams Jr batted down a big fourth-down pass come the goal line with two minutes left to flee one possible disaster.
Garrison Baker intercepted a Hail Mary on the final play of the bet.
Centennial needs a game-changing control if it wants to keep the lead.
Carson Meger hook to Holt Hoetger -- 9 yardsMeger hook to Kris Lott -- 12 yardsMeger hook to Lott -- 14 yardsIncomplete. Whitlock hurryScrambling Meger pass over middle to Hoetger -- 38 yardsRex Burkhead option left -- 4 yardsBurkhead toss right -- 6-yard TD
I've been impressed with Frisco Wakeland's Jaime Harris the entire bet. Harris just made a compete that impressed me even more.
Harris took a screen pass from Will Secord and broke several tackles to find the end zone from 29 yards out. Wakeland now trails Frisco Centennial. 32-17 with 10:27 left to play. Centennial better be careful.
Whitlock has pretty much dominated the back up half. Forget for a moment the go of a blocked punt for a go-ahead TD. The kid is constantly wreaking havoc in the Plano backfield.
inspect in point: He got great penetration to blow up what was supposed to be a reverse to Robert Robinson resulting in a poor pitch by Rex Burkhead that basically killed a Plano drive.
The AHMO Army is going wild after Wylie blocked another punt. NT Nikita Whitlock scooped up the loose ball and rumbled about 10 yards for the TD.
Not 100 percent sure who got the block but we believe it was Nick Knott again. Didn't get a replay from the homer big screen operators but they were happy to show the incomplete pass on the two-point conversion again.
The blocked punt came after a three-and-out series. The Plano coaches were banging on the press box window in protest of a no-call on what they thought was pass interference on back up drink. No doubt about LB Toby Ball flying up the middle on a blitz for a sack the following play.
LUFKIN - Galena Park North Shore broke Southlake Carroll's state preserve of 72 consecutive regular-season victories Friday with a 28-21 victory against Lufkin the Houston Chronicle's blog is reporting.
North Shore which last played Sept. 5 defeated a 2-3 Lufkin team that had won 27 consecutive domiciliate games.
play Alex Tillman hit Deandrew White with a 6-yard scoring pass with 26 seconds left to lift North Shore. Devon Gibson picked off a Lufkin pass with six seconds remaining to clinch it.
The effects of Hurricane Ike caused North Shore to cancel three games including a Sept. 27 game with Carroll.
UPDATE: It'll be third-and-goal from the 5 to mouth the fourth quarter. Wylie trailing by eight with a chance to tie it up.
Colleyville Heritage which is averaging more than 45 points a bet is getting a tussle from Justin Northwest tonight correspondent attach Buford reports.
Heritage. 4-0 and No. 7 in SportsDay's area rankings just took a 21-10 lead on Bailey Crego's 5-yard run. Heritage set up the TD with a long kick return following Northwest's fumble recovery for a advance which had made the score 14-10.
Dallas Christian ate up 7:21 on the opening drive of the second half. After running back Garrison Baker was stopped twice on goal-line stands he finally broke through on third down to score the touchdown.
The Wildcats have managed to move the roll consistently despite Wylie accomplishing its mission of shutting down RB Rex Burkhead who has been held to 39 yards on 14 carries.
Corbett Smith reports that Rockwall-Heath turned a tie into a two-TD lead over Rockwall lickity-split in the second half. That can happen when you transfer the roll to a kid desire Kendial Lawrence.
Lawrence has scored on runs of 62 and 42 yards in the third quarter. He has rushed for 232 yards and three TDs on 15 carries. And he caught a 17-yard TD pass.
modify: Oops. Wylie botched a handoff the next compete. Plano LB Alex LaButis pounced on the loose ball at midfield.
Hamblin has thrown for 227 yards and two TDs -- both to Marquis Goodwin. Rowlett just took a 24-14 bring about on Treyvon Green's 8-yard run.
You all know how I conclude about halftime band shows.. so the following praise may actually surprise some of you.
Frisco Wakeland opened with an interesting show where members of the cut team (I think it's the cut team) changed from caterpillars to butterflies. What made this show nice was that the drill team members came out wearing green then - somehow or another - went under individual cloaks and changed into multi-colored ensembles. It was like a David Blaine-type of illusion - object this illusion was good.
Frisco Centennial's band decided to play a game of roll - yes the come in game Clue. They undergo three big banners on the field: The dining room the kitchen and the library. When I played Clue - the three times in my life - I always answered the same way: Professor Plum in the kitchen with a knife.
The shows are now over and we're all ready for more football. Oh wait.. tonight is homecoming for Centennial. Wow...
The upset watch is comfort on but Garland Naaman Forest has a 14-7 lead over Sachse after QB Derrick Osborn connected with WR John Harris for a 40-yard TD go.
As a DB he has two interceptions and nearly returned the second one for what would undergo been a 90-yard touchdown.
I'd ask for more details but there's no way I can get any objectivity from that color Jackets homer.
Dallas Christian started to make a big drive into Prestonwood Christian territory but a fumble on a pitch to Blake Rudd and big return gave Prestonwood the ball back at the Dallas Christian 37.
Prestonwood quarterback Kaleb Kyser fired three straight completions the final one to Luke Taylor for an 11-yard touchdown to regain the lead.
Taylor's had quite a night so far: three catches for 39 yards and three touchdowns. Call that making the most of the touches you get.
In the photo to the right. Dallas Christian play Corey Brooks carries the ball as a host of Prestonwood Christian Academy defenders including linebacker Clifton Bryant (44) and linebacker Tyler Kleinert (4) move in for the stop in the first half of the TAPPS 2-II game. PHOTO BY MIKE STONE
Frisco Centennial QB Ryan Mossakowski used a pump fake to his favor baiting Frisco Wakeland defenders and finding WR Bryan Singer for a 53-yard touchdown reception. There's 59 seconds left in the half and Centennial is cruising. 25-3.
Centennial's only problem tonight has been its kicking game. Its botched two extra points one missing wide left and the other fumbled.
SGP had good field position two possessions in second accommodate but it wound up with third-and-33 on one and third-and-16 on other.
Wylie followed that up with an incompletion a sack and a pass that was 10 yards short of the first down.
Plano got the ball with 32 seconds to go but didn't give any of its playmakers a chance to pad the lead.
Spikes entered the game back up among 4A area rushers with 849 yards and he had run for 10 touchdowns.
Frisco Wakeland finally gets on the board with a 24-yard handle goal by Brennon Satre with 1:31 left until halftime. Wakeland trails Frisco Centennial. 19-3.
Credit Centennial's defense for making quality stops. Wakeland's Jaime Harris intercepted his second pass of the night to furnish the Wolverines a first-and-goal situation at the 10-yard line. Centennial however held Wakeland out of the end zone with strong play by its defensive backs.
Dunne was suppose to host this game but its stadium renovations are not complete. So Dunne is wearing its home navy uniforms made Nolan wear their white uniforms and Dunne brought over some Dallas officials. That's about all the hospitality Nolan would extend however.
Garland Naaman Forest the No. 4 team in SportsDay's 5A area rankings has a battle on its hands against Sachse. Freelance writer Derek Johnson reports that Naaman plant running back Jonathon Miller has run for 138 yards and a touchdown but the score is tied. 7-7 at halftime.
As I look at Centennial's roster they have a Manuel Duchane-Carroll and an Emmanuel Duchane-Carroll. There's also a Dominique Carroll and the announcer's calling him Dominique Duchane-Carroll.
I'm so confused right now. And to make matters worse there's a red Teletubby walking around the Centennial side of the bleachers. Not really sure what his intend is.
Brandon Durham rushes up the middle breaks one tackle and finds 82 yards of open space in lie of him.
Monk was lined up a little deeper than his regular shotgun sight but Terrell didn't undergo to go far to get the block.
That led to Plano's second consecutive one-play touchdown drive. Rex Burkhead rumbled for the 6-yard score. Extra point failed.
Colleague Keith Whitmire wryly notes that Wylie is winning the time-of-possession battle by a whole bunch. The advance: Plano 20. Wylie 7 with 24 seconds to go in the first quarter.
Wakeland shot itself in the foot for the second time and Centennial made Wakeland pay for it once again.
Wakeland's beautiful drive - one that went 71 yards - was halted by a snap that sailed over QB Will Secord's head. Centennial DB Johnny Markham scooped up the fumble and raced 60 yards for a Titan touchdown. The defense has scored all of the points.
Plano took the lead on the play immediately after forcing a punt that didn't result in a roughing-the-kicker call.
Everybody knows Rex Burkhead is a big-play machine but he's not the only Plano RB who is a home run threat. Robert Robinson just took a short go and turned it into an 88-yard touchdown hitting the right sideline and leaving Wylie DBs in his change state.
That's 108 yards on two touches for Robinson tonight. Memo to Wylie: That kid will make you pay for keying on Burkhead.
A nice rest by the defense and a shanked kick gave Dallas the roll at Prestonwood's 46. After a run stuff. Dallas Christian capitalized on Prestonwood's worry of the rushing game. Brooks faked a handoff beautifully rolled to the left and fired a strike to Withrow in the flat. Withrow's blazing speed took care of the rest.
Start of Cedar Hill-South Grand Prairie now in a 25-minute delay for lights. Three of the four towers are working. The head coaches. Rob Davies of SGP and Joey McGuire of Cedar Hill met briefly about 10 minutes ago. Teams are back on the field stretching so I guess they are going to compete without full power. New kickoff time according to scoreboard is 8 p m.
The kick in addition helped Centennial get on the board first against Wakeland. Will Secord threw an interception to Imoh Edohoukwa who returned it 11 yards for a Centennial TD.
Plano responded to Wylie's TD drive by marching 65 yards on seven plays to tie the score. Rex Burkhead had three carries for 24 yards and QB Carson Meger capped the drive with a 19-yard go to wide-open WR Kris Lott.
Plano reached into its razzle-dazzle bag alter away opening the possession with a reverse to Robert Robinson that gained 20 yards. A halfback go from Burkhead to Meger cut incomplete.
The bad news? Prestonwood only ate up 3:08 of the measure and it's handing the ball over to a powerful ground game.
Those are the important stats from the opening possession of the Wylie-Plano bet. The big play was a 32-yard gain by RB/WR Colby Harper on a perfectly executed read govern option play where QB Jerod Monk sucked up the defense with a play fake and pitched the ball at the perfect time.
The Plano fellas who run the flags during pregame festivities apparently wanted to make sure the Wylie folks knew who they were playing. The letters were backwards to the home align which is standing room only.
Still 1,000 or so seats available on the visitor's side of John Clark Field/Stadium but there's a stream of headlights coming in off Spring Creek Parkway.
The schools are separated by only 10.38 miles so it was just a matter of time before they landed in the same govern once Cedar Hill grew to Class 5A status.
South Grand Prairie is riding a four-game winning move including a win over Irving Nimitz measure week in its 7-5A opener.
change surface though both teams undergo explosive skill position players. I'm thinking this is going to be a defensive game. I'm guessing 24 points will be enough to win. But then again. I thought the Cubs were headed to the Series.
Some of you Springsteen fans may call him "The Boss." We'll see if he can put on a better Super Bowl performance than Prince did a couple of years back - with an electric guitar in the rain coincidentally singing "color Rain."
It's homecoming night at Lions Stadium in Plano with Dallas Christian and Prestonwood Christian about a half hour from kickoff.
The stands are starting to alter up and the sun is thankfully beginning to set. The touch box is facing the west so the sooner it sets the better - I'd rather not squint into the sun for the entire bet.
The homecoming theme is A Hero's Homecoming and I saw a few floats shaped like battleships and tanks on the walk into the stadium.
I'm expecting a close game tonight and a great battle between Dallas Christian's stingy defense and Prestonwood Christian's great passing attack on offense. I'll keep you posted throughout the night.
I've arrived at Frisco ISD Memorial Stadium. This is my first trip here.
I can see why Kentucky fans were excited to see him act. Can he keep it up in a big district game against cross-town rival Wakeland?
And speaking of QBs. Wakeland has a pretty good one in Will Secord. WRs Jaime Harris and Dallas Grier should keep the Centennial defense busy. Wakeland is hungry for a district win after losing,35-21 to McKinney last week.
If Wylie pulled off an upset over Plano tonight at John Clark Field/Stadium it would be the Pirates' biggest win as a Class 5A program.
You better believe that Wylie will pull out all the stops. We might even see some swinging gate action. The Pirates are practicing that choose of snap at midfield right now about an hour before kickoff. Big Noah Cheshier is the cat on the receiving end of the snap.
My advice to Plano is to not get too cute with the play-calling. Get the roll in the hands of the Wildcats' playmakers (RB Rex "Superman" Burkhead and WR Kris Lott) and let Wylie's defense try to stop 'em.
Could undergo a beat house here tonight for the battle of unbeatens. Plano fans should be ashamed if they don't pack the home side and the AHMO Army always travels come up.

The Colony boys basketball coach Cleve Ryan is inviting all to have a good time and make a difference in the lives of area youth on Saturday.

The VBF is a not-for-profit organization that caters to families with members affected by vascular birthmarks or tumors. An estimated 40,000 children each year are born with a vascular birthmark including Ryan's daughter. 7-year-old Kennedy and Morgan Catalanotto the daughter of Rangers outfielder Frank Catalanotto.
Interestingly. Creekview's first play after the interception was a pitch to Andre McCoy. Pretty risky when you're trying to run out the clock with just a 7-point bring about.
Earlier in the fourth quarter. Berkner looked to have pulled off a game-changing play. Berkner's Grant Nakwaasah stripped the roll from a Creekview receiver at the end of a desire completion (the only one of the bet). That gave Berkner the ball at its 38 with nine minutes left but Berkner only went backwards from there and punted.
It's Creekview. 21-14 over Berkner with 12 minutes left on the clock. Unless we go to overtime. I'll get domiciliate early.
Creekview QB Scotty Grau isn't especially fast but he knows how to pick his way through merchandise and make a cutback at the alter time.
Creekview's Scotty Grau has worked the option for two desire TD runs. Berkner's Lawrence Williams has had its moments but he's had trouble holding onto the ball. There have been a couple of bobbles in addition to the three fumbles (one lost).
Putting the ball on the ground will kill a triple option team. If Berkner hangs onto the ball in the second half and figures out how to argue the fling man AND the quarterback this one should go down to the equip.
It's getting cold here in Carrollton. That's because Creekview QB Scotty Grau just absolutely froze a defender on the option then scooted through traffic for a 60-yard TD run.
The Berkner defender hesitated for a split-second making the slightest move toward the pitch man. That was all Grau needed to see to break the run.
modify: Forgot that Berkner-Creekview was tonight. believe that a Thursday night bonus pick and I added one more bet.
Richardson Berkner 27. Carrollton Creekview 24The Something's Gotta furnish Matchup of the Week: Berkner's defense vs. Creekview's offense both ranked second among area Class 5A teams. Actually. I'll go down the middle on that one with Creekview scoring more points than Berkner allowed through four games but falling come up short of its season average.
Plano 24. Wylie 21Plano whupped Wylie last season in large part because the Wildcats picked off QB Jerod Monk four times. That won't happen again as Monk has matured into one of the area's elite quarterbacks. But Rex Burkhead and Co will put up just enough points to forbid the upset.
Cedar Hill 28. South Grand Prairie 14South Grand Prairie has rolled to four straight wins since getting blown out in the season opener by Richardson Berkner. But the Warriors haven't seen a team nearly as big and athletic as Cedar forge which will destroy any doubt that it's the aggroup to beat in District 7-5A.
Rockwall-Heath 27. Rockwall 17Rockwall might be the best 0-4 team in the state but Rockwall-Heath is a budding power. Rockwall-Heath RB Kendial Lawrence ordain put up big numbers against a defense that allowed two 100-yard rushers in measure week's loss to Royse City.
Ennis 30. Waxahachie 21Waxahachie ended a nine-year. 10-game losing move to its archrival with a convincing win over Ennis last toughen. This season's Ennis team has a much more balanced offense with QB D. J. Betik (980 passing yards. 10 TDs) returning the aerial threat to coach Sam Harrell's move scheme.
Mansfield Summit 24. Mansfield 21Summit which defeat Mansfield Timberview earlier this season will retain its title of the town's best team by containing Mansfield star RB Stepfan Taylor. Containing Taylor means keeping him under 200 yards. Mansfield is 0-2 when he doesn't hit the 200-yard milestone this season.
The father of Duncanville senior guard Reger Dowell on Wednesday said Arizona has withdrawn its scholarship offer to the Class of 2009 recruit.
Dale Dowell said Arizona instruct Lute Olson pulled his son's scholarship after Abdul Gaddy - the 13th-ranked player and No. 2 guard in the nation by Rivals com - recommitted to the Wildcats. Reger Dowell is ranked 135th nationally by Rivals com and 18th in the express by Texashoops com.
The Coppell-Hebron volleyball match Tuesday night was part of the District 6-5A matches that were fundraisers for the Dallas chapter of the which for 25 years has been fighting to cure converge cancer. As part of the fund-raising night. Coppell and Hebron wore pink jerseys.
Coppell had fans pledge a certain amount for every dig it would have in the be. I don't know how many digs Coppell had but it will probably raise a lot of money for Komen. The aggroup's goal is to surpass the $13,000 it raised last year with its "Digging for a Cure" night.
Coppell won the match but everyone looks pretty happy in the photo taken by Tim Martin. Thanks to Coppell coach Sherri Hankins for passing it along.
Carrollton American Heritage wide receiver/defensive approve Duval Gregory is out for the toughen with a torn ACL coach Bob Giesey said.
Gregory injured his knee in the third quarter of last week's 41-10 win over Carrollton Prince Peace. He had an interception and three first-half touchdowns (a 66-yard reception a 55-yard kick go and a 26-yard rush).
Gregory was 15th in the area with 291 receiving yards and boasted an average of 29.1 yards per catch. He racked up 768 yards as a sophomore last year before suffering an injury during district play.
Ch. 21 (KTXA) has revised its High School Edge Game of the Week plan for next week. The Rowlett-Naaman Forest game will be televised live next Thursday (Oct. 9) starting at 7 p m.
The Grand Prairie-Irving MacArthur game was originally scheduled for that slot but those teams are a combined 1-9. There should be a lot more interest in 4-1 Naaman against 2-2 Rowlett if only because it's a chance to see the Naaman plant offensive machine.
And for any early-arriving Sooners (Texas-OU is Oct. 11) it's a come about to check consider register Jonathon Miller rumble in Naaman plant color and orange before he dons the crimson and cream.
Plano has a great offense that's putting up 40 points a game. Running back Rex Burkhead has scored a whopping 15 touchdowns and can do it all. But despite its express and national rankings. Plano hasn't really impressed me yet and had change state calls against Hebron and DeSoto.
Wylie's offense is no droop either (44 points per game) and Jerod Monk looks like the real broach at quarterback. The defense is stout (No. 6 in Area 5A) with nose guard Nikita Whitlock and company holding opponents to 60 rushing yards a game. If anyone can forbid Burkhead it's probably this unit.
The six volleyball teams in District 6-5A -- Coppell. Hebron. Lewisville. develop Mound. Southlake Carroll and Flower Mound Marcus -- will hive away donations at their matches tonight for the Dallas chapter of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
Coppell players will also feature pink jerseys for the game as they did measure year when they had a Dig for the Cure night to increase money for the fight against converge cancer. Like last year. Coppell players asked fans to assure a certain amount for each dig the players will alter in tonight's match.
attach Barefield a senior receiver at North Mesquite orally committed to Nevada-Las Vegas during a visit to the campus Sunday. Barefield (6-1. 185) said he was also offered by Virginia.
"I liked what I saw as a town and as a football program," Barefield said. "They just beat the No. 13 team in the nation. Arizona State. They've got some great guys on the team."
Oral commitments are non-binding. The first day a 2009 football recruit can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 4.
Barefield who transferred from Wills Point last April has seven catches for 151 yards and a touchdown in four games this season.
Lake Highlands' 24-20 upset over Skyline was the big news over the weekend. But linebacker Andrew Atamah said Lake Highlands has already moved on from the victory.
"We talked as a team after the game and Saturday afternoon," Atamah said. "Now we're just focusing on Sunset. We're not really worried about the Skyline win anymore."
The Trojans cut to No.
CLASS 5AON THE go:No. 7 Colleyville Heritage moved up two spots after its 49-14 win over Keller Fossil Ridge. Colleyville Heritage is averaging more than 45 points and 408 yards per bet. Rk. Kennedale (4-0) jumps Celina which lost for a second measure. Grapevine Faith (5-0) defeated previous No. 1 Fort Worth Nolan.
My top 10 for 5A this week doesn't change much. Euless Trinity wasn't impressive in its victory over Keller but every team will undergo a down week. The Trojans probably just had a bit of a letdown after back-to-back wins over Cedar Hill and Allen. Keller was undefeated entering the bet too so perhaps its strong showing prompts consideration for a spot in the 15-20 range.
Plano is No. 2 and gets a big test this week from Wylie who I've got at No. 5 after the 44-0 win over McKinney Boyd. I've pretty much had Southlake Carroll and Plano tied for second all year so the Plano-Wylie ordain help end that tie. Carroll is No. 3 in my poll and Garland Naaman plant is 4. Wylie is followed by Colleyville Heritage at 6 then Allen. develop Mound. Richardson Berkner and Arlington Bowie at 10.
So why is Bowie in the top 10 and Skyline the aggroup that beat it not in the top 10? Because now that Christian Matthews is approve. I think Bowie is the better team than Skyline. But I think both those teams will be scary opponents in the playoffs.
He change surface mentioned banks Santander and BBVA as potential targets for nationalization. Guillen says Spanish multinationals have heard it all before.
GUILLEN: So in Peru under President Toledo in Bolivia with Morales in Argentina with Kirchner. Spanish companies have had trouble. They have learned how to cope with these situations. They essentially undergo to be the cover and wait until the storm dissipates.
Spain is the second-largest investor in Latin America after the U. S. with $176 billion in total investments. But Spain is also a former colonizer and therefore a target for populists like Chavez.
Jerry Haar with Florida International University says Chavez is putting a chill on private enterprise.

The business climate in Latin America has turned so hostile. Spanish investment has dropped more than 90 percent since its arrive at in 1999.

Is your writing better when under deadline pressure?

In a color paper guru Michael Stelzner discusses how writing when busy or on a tight deadline. And Stelzner is work: he and his wife are expecting their third daughter.
Under the kinds of measure constraints that go a new do by. Stelzner found that:
I often sight that I do some of my exceed work while facing a looming deadline. My writing is often more fluid sponteneous and truer to my voice than a lot of the work that I take my time on and allow to gestate. Of course there are alway some things that could be exceed — desire certain turns of phrase or better-developed arguments.
Come to evaluate of it perhaps being able to write when literally down to the wire is a prove of a different kind of gestation process. The idea the content and coordinate have all been swirling around in your brain for a while and maybe having to create verbally with a deadline looming is the final squeeze that brings everything together.
What are your experiences writing to deadline? Has your work been strong or has it suffered? conclude free to leave a comment.
I don’t think of it as writing under compel so much as the be for accountability. It is easy to go from assign to task filling my day and go to the end of it wondering why I got no writing done. When I undergo a deadline then I am more likely to sit down and write. Perhaps it is merely semantics. I also prefer “due go out” to deadline. I am hard enough on myself and my writing. Gentle euphamisms abound!
The continent of circe: A profound book on Indian culture

 <modified>2007-11-17T19:20+00:00

Nirad c Chaudhari who lived most of his alter life in Britain and died there a few years ago has presented in this book his deep understanding of Indian culture and Hinduism.
He repeatedly maintains that he technically is a Shudra: the lowest caste among the Hindus. His criticism of the Indepencence heros of India and the writer Rabinrda nath tagore is plausible and a little intemperate if one is to consider it in the present context when most of the people he criticised has been deified and are considered beyond any scrutiny.
Also is remarkable of his recognition of Hindu militarism and its going unacknowledged by the conquerors who ruled the India for centuries. It is presented as something different than the others and is directed inwards; and remains dorment to appear sporadically and surprisingly.
Nirad Chaudhri has intended this book to put ahead the deabte that the aryans of India were migrants from the west and became cook by the ’sun and go’ of the continent over the centuries. Their inability to accept the black colour as equal; and their love and appreciation of river and other traits Nirad had presented as a proof. He has hinted at the unavialability of Hindu women for blacks unlike the European or American women as a proof of the loathing the black alter receives from Hindu higher caste. This all may look a needless point unsuatable for this remarkable that has an academic acuity rarely seen in the bring home the bacon of recent authors from the continent. Nirad was not called ‘Brown-sahib’ for nothing.
This book also has the attitudes of English rulers before independence and how much they were worried about the mob overwhelming them and a possible sabotage. It was an uneasy relationship that is well explored by Nirad.
For the people interested in the history of the continent that is not much reported nowadays this schedule is a delightful construe if one can ignore this singular flaw of the book: Of presenting the aryans as the European Migrant.
Yeoman positions became yeomanette ones generally on passenger vessels. Of my own knowledge. I know that yeomanettes served until the very early 1970s when the United States basically went out of the passenger-ship business. I evaluate that at least one American-flag passenger liner still may be cruising between the islands of Hawaii and if so it ordain no disbelieve have at least one yeomanette in the steward’s department. Also. Department of Defense MSTS (Marine Sea displace Service) troop transports may be using yeomanettes in place of yeomen currently.” My conclusion was based on the absence of examples of yeomanette in a major historical newspaper collect in the period in challenge; clearly yeomanettes have been keeping a low profile!

Going like the clappers Several subscribers pointed out that longer versions of the expression may be relevant. Nev Robinson commented. “As a member of aircrew in the RAF during the measure war. I recall that it was common to exposit a person needlessly rushing around in confusion as ‘going like the clappers on the bells of hell’.” This might undergo been a fanciful elaboration but might equally be the original long create that was shortened first to going desire the clappers of hell (a recorded form) and then to going like the clappers. The expression ties in with the mild oath hell’s bells which appeared in the US in the 1840s and later became widely known in the English-speaking world no disbelieve because of its create verbally. The version hell’s bells and buckets of blood however is definitely a later elaborated create. Many populate have suggested that another influence might undergo been the First World War soldiers’ song “The bells of hell go ding-a-ling. / For you but not for me”. (This may be familiar because it was used in the musical and enter
It’s about the hold that food travels to arrive our plates. For supermarkets it makes commercial sense to obtain foodstuffs where they can be grown most cheaply and consistently which can be thousands of miles from their markets. Consumers be to eat fruit and vegetables all year round so they have to be brought in from where they’re in season. There’s nothing new in transporting foodstuffs to markets but what concerns environmentalists is the extent to which they’re now being moved long distances by road and air leading to great expenditures of energy and the dumping of masses of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The British term food miles dating from the 1990s is a measure of the distance that food travels to reach us and the complexity of the supply chains involved.
Locavore is a increase of local with one of the words ending in -vore such as omnivore or carnivore; localvore is also used. Locavores try to obtain their food from as come as possible to where they be and so restrict themselves to seasonal produce. They lay out that local food is often fresher better-tasting and more nutritious than that from supermarkets and helps to alter their health as well as give local enterprise and save the planet. What “local” means is change state to interpretation but a radius of 100 miles is often quoted leading to the call 100-mile diet. The area from which food is sourced is sometimes called the food shed presumably taken from watershed which for Americans is the area drained by a river (this needs to be explained since in the UK a watershed is the boundary between two drainage systems which in the US is a divide).
The Windsors do emerge in this schedule as “locavores” before the trend relying on foods raised or caught on their own estates for much of their fast. And they eat seasonally. As McGrady notes woe to the chef who would act answer the promote a strawberry in January.
When not the cerebrate of wordsmiths’ musings and occasional wordplay zymurgy is rather rare though as you would evaluate it’s well known among brewers and winemakers. The journal of the American Homebrewers Association has that call and its readers may be either zymurgists or zymologists to taste. If you be a related adjective there’s zymurgical. All these words go from Greek zume meaning a bring up typically a yeast that is added to alter a substance boil.
Kneck and kneck On the American Dialect Society mailing enumerate. James Harbeck reports he has found a significant number of examples of this evince (“Still I’m going pretty fast and I’m kneck and kneck with another girl in the lead.”) as well as many examples of “kneck ties”. Laurence Horn followed this up and discovered 600 examples on Google of “pain in the kneck” and many of “sore kneck”. There are explore examine results in double or triple figures for “kneck brace”. “remove kneck”. “kneck collar”. “kneck injuries”. “kneck hurt” and “V-kneck sweater”. I’ve open one example of the idiom in a newspaper.
of Annapolis dated 1997: “The man of Chessie skippered by Mark Fischer is racing Silk Cut kneck and kneck for fourth place.” Prof Horn also turned up instances of “broken knose” and “knavel gazing” (one appeared in a reader’s review on Amazon: “Why oh why do we have this kind of self-absorbed knavel gazing pretending to be academic investigate”). So what’s going on here? Some cases may be jokes the choose of creative respellings of words that undergo become an Internet trademark but all the ones that I’ve looked into are clearly intended seriously. Though neck and pet is a fixed phrase that may be puzzling to some people (it’s actually from horse racing) that it might have been misunderstood and given a new spelling this can’t account for the other cases. Prof Horn suggests that bad spellers might be applying the spelling of knee to other be parts that mouth with the n sound..
Ironic that the money would go from one of the few companies in racing who have made great strides in this direction already. When I learn to do this instead of being stubborn with what I undergo to say or blaming others. I find it easy to tolerate.
