Some of the stories were more meaningful and profound than others. There were many that seemed rather schmaltzy to me but I can be rather cynical. This book reminded me a lot of the Chicken dope for the Soul books- it has the same blend of warm fuzzy moments and determined hopefulness. This can be good or bad depending on what you plan to use the book for. Need a lift or an encouraging story for a Sunday school class- the book is an asset. Looking for a great read that is going to really make you evaluate and learn- be elsewhere. While many of the stories are sincere and furnish wonderful perspective on the human condition and our ability to grow and adapt and change as is the inspect with many books similar to these it is hard to tell where the profound stops and the blatant sentimentalism begins. "Light and Darkness" posted by ~Ray

Darkness assertsA position of power. Light assertsA position of strength. To darkness,Nothing matters but power. To lighten everything matters,And that is strength. Darkness strives to break,For the sake of disrupting,All that light strives to create. But its methods of corruption,The means of disruption,Are insidious not ridiculous. Dark feelings and wordsAre always impatient,Always condemning. Darkness declares war upon,Rails against and wrestles with,And encourages you to do the same. lighten does not condemn,Does not contend war upon,But sometimes wrestles with darkness. For light is trying still,To find how best to broach with,How best to help,Those who be no help,But disrupt and corrupt,Condemn war and complain against it. It is the essence of lightThat it is patientWith darkness. From the perspective of light,There is no battle. There is bringing what is neededTo those who are in be. The darkness in ourselvesAnd the darkness in othersIs not in need of setting straight. It is in be of compassion. The only way to teach patienceIs with patience and by example. When we meet darkness approach to face,We must remember whatWe are dealing with and who. We are dealing with ourselvesAnd with individualsWho are not unlike ourselves. If we are create from raw material to cut offAnd direct into the pitThose who are uncaring,We are then among them. Those who are truly strongerDo not cut offAnd direct away from themThe weaker.
